Maintaining Your Thatched Roof
Not only is moss unsightly, but it can also cause underlying damage to your thatched roof and spread deep down into the roof structure. The main issue is the dampness, and the effects that can have on causing wood rot.
Removing moss doesn’t actually damage the roof, this is misconception, if you are using a professional master thatcher like Heart of England, then you will find that the thatched roof will be cleaned professionally and only the butt ends of stalks fall off (these will have been weather damaged previously).
From an aesthetic point of view you can see from our image gallery just how good a cleaned thatched roof looks.
